Hisoka on Hisoka: twenty statements [Hunter x Hunter, G]
So, when I said I'd never write another
20_facts meme? I blatantly lied.
Hisoka on Hisoka: twenty statements
Disclaimer: HisoHiso and his various pyschoses belong to Togashi.
Notes: What troubles this the most about this piece, is that it is not a fic. Nor is it, strictly speaking, a collection of 20 random facts. It's just poking at character brains again, which is what I find myself doing every time I cross paths with HxH, sadly.
1. Hisoka answers only to Hisoka.
2. Boredom is annoying. When there’s no entertainment to be found where Hisoka is, he finds himself compelled to create some.
Keep Hisoka amused and he will keep you alive; but, his attention span is short.
3. We are liars and unstable. What’s treasured today will be discarded as trash, tomorrow.
4. Chewing gum is his favourite sweet. He likes the way it gradually loses flavour. Just like people.
5. Hisoka favours an extensible, distensible, deceitful type of gum. He says his nen is the perfect reflection of his being. Do you agree?
6. Daily training with nen is a game. A little boy’s game. Hisoka doesn’t like to exercise self-discipline if he can help it.
7. This is how he would describe delayed gratification: ripe fruit is sweeter than green, and lacks the sour aftertaste of incomplete pleasure.
8. He’s still tempted, upon seeing the first signs of darkening colour on a peach.
9. Hisoka doesn’t lie to himself.
10. He does not strive for inconsistency. This is what makes his personality so unpredictable.
11. His favourite card? The Joker, naturally.
12. Kuroro is the Ace of Spades. Illumi has always reminded Hisoka of the Queen of Hearts, for reasons he deems unnecessary to broach.
13. Winning at poker is not quite as important as enjoying oneself. However, being the loser is rarely funny, in the types of game Hisoka plays.
14. Hisoka doesn’t gamble; he cheats.
15. He doesn’t recall the past. If he thought very hard, he might be able to remember the first time he killed.
... it was pleasant.
16. Sex, killing, sex: does it matter if there is a difference? It’s been a long time since the killing first gained ascendancy.
17. To kill for mercy is to miss the point of killing. If the day comes when Hisoka is compelled to cast a King of Diamonds through Machi’s pale, pretty neck, it will be nothing but pure pleasure.
18. It would be amusing if he were to be killed by Kuroro, but he doesn’t think he will be. A true magician, ladies and gentlemen, never runs out of tricks.
19. He can’t remember where he got the costume from, but it colour-coordinates easily, and he sees no reason to change it. Besides, it’s good for grabbing attention. Hisoka likes being stared at by people.
He’s a vain creature, but everyone knows that.
20. From the dyed tips of his overgelled hair to the soles of his floppy shoes, Hisoka realizes and understands that he’s the strongest. Would you call this arrogance?

#8, 12, 15, 20
"Perhaps you could call this arrogant."
Just... asd;jlfljk aaaaaah. ♥

...I mean, the crux of Hisoka's personality is that he's a self-centred bastard who happily indulges his lust to kill. And somehow this makes him a likeable character. I always knew manga screws up your morals.
(and thank you. XD)

Really, how else would we love such an arrogant ass as Atobe? xDI mean, the interesting thing about Hisoka is how he goes about having fun? Therein lies most all his quirks. It's not even normal kill, kill, kill, it's "fresh fruit" and gum and all his parlor tricks.

I loved this line:
4. Chewing gum is his favourite sweet. He likes the way it gradually loses flavour. Just like people.
Very Hisoka.
The cards that people remind him of, were amusing. =D
no subject
*g* Thank you! I'm fond of #4, myself.
I found myself repeatedly wishing that I knew more about playing cards, throughout the course of this fic. It would have helped a lot.
no subject
With cards; I know that there are a few good books around, that touch on deeper meanings, fortune telling aspect, etc, maybe have a look in the library?
@.@; The only thing I can recall in specific of the top of my head is the solitaire mystery. Which is a pretty interesting story that involves cards, to be sure, though not perhaps so good for the details. *g*

Hisoka/Machi is the love. Although, how does one write Hisoka/anyone?
Machi seems to understand Hisoka perfectly, though. He really is a self-centred jerk. Just about everything else could be reasonably interpreted in the light of that.
no subject
XD Why?
Hisoka/Machi is the love. Although, how does one write Hisoka/anyone?
I dunno, I haven't tried yet. XD

Love #20. (It sounds familiar, or maybe it's only because I'm too much into TeniPuri?)
no subject
I had trouble with 20, I think. Hisoka = so not Atobe, but I'm not sure how to make that difference clear in words. *fails at HxH analysis, generally*
no subject
Okay, stopping right now, because otherwise I'm going to cast Gon as the Jack of Hearts, and that's just odd.
This is lovely. You're right that it isn't quite fic, but it does have Hisoka's voice in every line.
And I now have a strange urge to compare Hisoka and Akutsu--Hisoka as something Akutsu might have become, Akutsu as a larval Hisoka. The whole constellation of boredom and violence and seeking people who are strong enough...
... and also possibly exploring why anime artists give the psycho violent ones weird, stand-up hair all the time.
Or maybe I just need more coffee. ^_^
no subject
*thinks* Although Akutsu is characterised by anger, in a way that Hisoka isn't. I mean, he still does things to piss people off; there's a reactionary aspect to his violence; it's not that whole game-playing and sensual pleasure thing that Hisoka has.
Glad the voice is coming through! The voice was what I was aiming to achieve, really; it's turned out very flat-sounding, which is not really what I was trying for, but I haven't yet figured out how to make it more distinctive, without compromising on Hisoka's relentless selfishness. It's the whole accuracy vs internal connection thing again. *g*
I do think that I want to research cards, and card games, and maybe circuses, though, before trying to write him again.
Maybe the way I was trying to be deadpan was because of how it plays out in the manga. Hisoka is so brilliantly defined, and fascinating, really, that you keep wanting to think that he's complex.
It's the difficulty with what I've seen with most Hisoka fic so far - they have him introspect and you know, relate to people, which he doesn't. In a way, they make him too complex? Which he isn't - his mind's twisty, but his soul isn't. Layers and layers of intelligence, but not an ounce of moral reasoning or interest in anything other than his own self-gratification.
*fangirls Togashi all over again* Damn, can that man create characters.
*wishes hard for a proper Hisoka-muse* Along with Killua and Gon.
no subject
There's probably some interesting things to be done with the stage magician aspect, though. I could completely see that being something that engages Hisoka intellectually, the interest of manipulating perceptions while seeing perfectly himself.
*eyes Niou muse* No, you may not go have tea with him.
no subject
*nods vigorously* Yes, yes! Ditto on the stage magician aspect too. *adds to the research list*
Would tea with Hisoka be good for Niou's health?
no subject
*regards muses warily* In any case, Niou seems to have invited Hisoka to the weekly poker game in Musespace, instead. What will happen when Hisoka and Hatter get into a cheating contest, I hesitate to imagine.

When there’s no entertainment to be found where Hisoka is, he finds himself compelled to create some.
I love this line, it combines just going with things ("finds himself compelled") with taking matters into your own hands ("create some") with hilarious understatement. ♥
Hisoka doesn’t like to exercise self-discipline if he can help it.
Also, this line, because Hisoka is disciplined in his own way...which leads into the next line about delayed gratification, which is also ♥.
Hisoka doesn’t gamble; he cheats.
So simple but it says so much.
It would be amusing if he were to be killed by Kuroro, but he doesn’t think he will.
That should be "doesn't think he will be."
I also love how many in-series quotes you worked into this.
no subject
And I've fixed the grammar bit, thank you.
no subject
awesome, simply awesome, and while, yes, it isn't fic, these are sentences that, if they were put into fiction, i would quote, highlight, put in italic bold and love, love, love. ♥
no subject
Thank you very much.
no subject
but yeah, again, awesome!

10. He does not strive for inconsistency. This is what makes his personality so unpredictable.
I've never of that before; very observant.
Illumi has always reminded Hisoka of the Queen of Hearts, for reasons he deems unnecessary to broach.
XD
I really enjoyed this and admire you for writing Hisoka well! (Personally, I think Hisoka is the hardest of the HxH characters to write.)
no subject
Gah. x_x
no subject
Hisoka is hard; although I personally find Gon the most difficult character, both to understand and to write.
Thank you so much! XD

I get so caught up with trying to figure out the HxH characters I hardly ever let go and fic; insight's not much good when you can't manage to shape it into a decent form, I think. But hopefully the muses will start coming into being at some point.

<<< best one and SO true XD XD haha i love this guy..

I believe all are true, but what's with the sex? O_
no subject
*thoughtful* Well, it's the whole sexual implications in the manga thing, about the way Hisoka reacts to mostly Gon, but just the prospect of fruit and worthy opinions - mind you, I try to think as little as possible about Hisoka and sex, in general.
no subject
yeah, >_>;;
Alright, sorry I asked a question that disturbed you a bit ._

Wow, creepy. I fear for Gon and the rest of the team with Hisoka out there, waiting for them to reach the pinnacle of his interest.
18. It would be amusing if he were to be killed by Kuroro, but he doesn’t think he will be. A true magician, ladies and gentlemen, never runs out of tricks.
Lol, and is it awful that after reading that I was reminded of Pierrot Bonnaz, the clown from Yakitate! Japan? If you haven't read/seen Y!Japan, Pierrot is a clown who can do practically anything (see miles away, hear a pin drop, speak hundreds of languages) all because he is a world class clown.
Now I have this terrible urge for a crossover. Oh, and thank you for writing this 20 things about Hiksoka project. I loved all the little facts about him, especially the ones that creeped me out.

I am so sadly addicted to
